Schuyler’s Monster: A Father’s Journey with His Wordless Daughter
I’ve been reading Rob Rummel-Hudson’s blog for years, and I’m kind of embarrassed it’s taken me this long to order my copy of his book. I’d play the ‘but I’ve had no time for reading‘ card except really, there’s no excuse — as soon as it arrived from Amazon I devoured the whole thing in two evenings. If you’ve been a fan of his online writing, you will be engrossed by Schuyler’s Monster, which is his personal account of the saga of his daughter’s eventual diagnosis with a rare disorder that prevents her from speaking. It doesn’t matter if you’re familiar with his family’s story or not, he brings the reader in with both heartbreaking sadness and whip-smart humor, and never fails to show you the powerful love he feels for his daughter, without a single drop of sappiness.
It is a completely heartfelt, honest story, told with Rob’s fantastic talent for making you laugh and sniffle during the same page (or hell, paragraph). Whether you’ve been a blog reader of his or you’ve never heard of him before, I think you’ll love this book.

I totally agree. I couldn’t put it down once I picked it up and devoured it in several hours. I then gave it to my mother–the retired school psychologist. Her reaction was interesting. It’s a great read.

Yep, I totally agree. I read it in about 3 days, and only because I had to go to WORK (stupid JOB!). Haven’t decided what I will do with it next, whether I’m going to keep it and read it again, or send it to my mother who I know will LOVE it too.
