Blistex DCT Lip Balm

blistexdct.jpgI am a fan of lip balm. And when I say “fan,” I mean the kind of fan who has perhaps fifteen to twenty lip balms planted around the house, in the purse, in the pockets.

My favorite lip balm of all is Blistex DCT: it’s made with cocoa butter, aloe, vitamin A, and vitamin E; it’s SPF 20; and it comes in cute little peach-colored pots that can be reused as pill containers or to make your own lip gloss (old lipstick stub mixed with lip balm or vaseline).

But a few years ago the stores around me stopped carrying it. I did find it online, but for, like, $2.59 a pot, plus $5.95 shipping. I object to that on principle: it was only $1.50-$2.00 in the store, with no shipping of course. So I’ve been stubbornly rationing my last pot of it ever since.

Imagine my joy when I found it available on Amazon.com, and qualifying for free shipping. So what if you have to buy twelve pots? I can totally use that much. (But maybe your local drugstore still carries it, if you only want one pot.) —Swistle

I have to hide my chap sticks/lip balm or my daughters highjack them and make them all saliva-y.

But I use it religiously in the morning and before bed. My favorite has a slight cocanut smell…mmmmm.

I’ve always been a fan of Blistex, but I wasn’t very impressed with their “Silk & Shine” lipbalm. It has an unpleasant perfume-y taste, and the shine is rather lacking. I do agree though, the DCT stuff is da bomb, as the youngsters would say.

I think overall my heart will always belong to Lip Medex, in the little blue pot, however.

Dude! I loooooove DCT! I have had the same problem for years… no one sells it locally. I thought I was the only crazy one buying it online and in vast quantities. Now my 2 year old digs it, and I mean she really DIGS it: with her little fingers. Argh!

I am obsessed with lip balm. Walmart used to carry this lame-o weird brand with 4 tubes to the pack (lavender, ylang ylang, green tea and chamomile) for like a buck fifty and it was the best lip balm on the PLANET! But now I can’t find anymore. So I’m forced to fall back on Blistex Herbal Answer, which I used to looooove but now feels like rubbing my lips with tacks since I’m spoiled by the cheapo walmart kind. My balm has to be in a tube though. Otherwise my nails get jabbed into it and then it ends up in my hair and all over my mouse or the phone or whatever.

I once dated a guy who was so addicted to lip balm (black Chapstick only–the only manly flavor) that he would cut a hole in the waistband of his boxers and keep a tube in there. He also kept one under his mattress. True story.

My favorite is still Carmex, in all its vaseline-y and medicinal glory.

Am I wierd for loving straight vasoline, right out of the HUGE plastic jar? I keep one in my car glove compartment, one in my purse and one in my office at work.

I find the Blistex too medicin-y, but I just discovered a Swedish brand that is now available in the States called LypSyl. It’s creamy and minty and I don’t have to reapply for hours afterward. Plus, the packaging is beyond cute…there’s a little plastic bee that allows you to push the balm up, so you can apply one-handed.

This stuff is so awesome. Back in my younger years I was an instrumentalist, and this was all our professors would let us use. Way good for your lips! Love this blog.
