Philosophy Purity Made Simple Facial Cleanser

319w0mf5rtl_aa240_.jpgI can’t believe I haven’t recommended this facial cleanser before, but searching the site tells me I have in fact been HORRIBLY REMISS. I’m a huge fan of the Philosophy line of skincare, and this is yet another product from their brand that lives up to its promise. Purity is a really mild cleanser that leaves your face feels soft and completely clean — but not squeaky and dry. It’s worked well on my skin through various changes: oily summertime, dried-out wintertime, prone-to-breakouts second trimester, etc.

You only need a small amount to do the job, so even the small 3.5 oz container (I’ve picked these up at Sephora’s trial size display) lasts a long, long time. It smells nice, it does a great job, it’s not too expensive . . . what’s not to love?

Ballpark price: $10-$40, depending on the container size

OOhhh, I love this stuff too! Totally melts away eye makeup without stinging. I recommend buying it from QVC.com, because they have the ginormous 32 ounce jug for just over $36. I keep it under the sink, and refill a little bottle to keep in the shower.

I’ll chime in to say this is definitely good stuff. I’m usually scale-o-rama in the winter and this doesn’t dry me out. But, wonder of wonders, it also cleans like a champ in the height of stick, SC humidity and leaves my face all soft and happy. I do what Mandy does and get the large bottle when I can find it on sale, and refill little bottles for the shower and for my travel bag (I use a tiny Bumble & bumble shampoo sample bottle for my travel bag — perfect size). And a teeny bit goes a looooong way, so the shocking cost isn’t really that shocking in the long run.

I must have read your praises of this face wash over on all&sundry, and last month my bar of Clinique face soap FINALLY ran out, so I had an excuse to buy “purity made simple” and try it. but it left my face feeling disappointingly dry and tight, which is exactly the opposite of what it says it’s supposed to do. I really love the idea of it and I love its makeup-removing powers (and it was so DAMN EXPENSIVE), so I want to try and find SOME use for it… so my question is, does anyone use it in conjunction with a moisturizer? and if so, which one/ones?

Melissa, I thought the same thing at first, but that all changed when I started using the Philosophy Hope in a Jar moisturizer as well as the Hope in a Bottle. I know - I’ve really had a LOT of the Philosophy Kool-aid, but there is something about using the whole line that just, well, works. I have never achieved this level of Skin Zen Happiness with any other brand. Hope that helps!

i love philosophy’s hope in a jar, but purity left too dry my combo skin(really, combo-leaning-toward-dry). my friends with oiler skin love it though.

oops, tapped submit a little too soon. i meant to add that cetaphil is still my cleanser of choice for my combo-yet-sensitive skin. plus i love philosophy’s “on a clear day blemish serum” for stubborn blackheads on my nose, and other blemishes.

Melissa, I have been using it with the Philosophy Hope in a Jar moisturizer. It took me a long time to get it right but now that I know I only need a tiny tiny amount it works great!

I bought a combo kit of this and the Philosophy Hope in a Jar before Christmas after reading your recommendations. I liked it so much that I just bought the Makeup Optional kit. Which, I’ve already fallen in love with.

Wow, thanks everyone! Yeah, I’ve been lustfully eyeing Hope In A Jar for a while now, I’ll definitely give it a try!

Someone mentioned Cetaphil in the comments, and I have to echo it here. Hope in a Jar wasn’t strong enough of a moisturizer for my skin this winter, and I had purchased some Cetaphil on a recommendation for my baby’s eczema. IT IS AMAZING. Use the Purity, and follow up with Cetaphil moisturizer for fabulous skin.
