Juno
I don’t get out to movies very often these days, but I’m really glad that I was able to catch a showing of Juno. Not that it won’t be a fine DVD rental—it’s not a big-screen must-see in terms of being visually orgasmic—but if I get the rare chance to see a movie in the theaters I want it to be damn good. And Juno is a damned good little movie, sweet and sharp and laugh-out-loud hilarious and heartwarming, all at once.
The basic plot is that teenaged Juno, played by a brilliant Ellen Page, discovers that the one-time trip into hanky panky land she took with her best friend Bleaker (Michael Cera) has led to pregnancy, and so she must deal with this unplanned event (trailer here). Oh, but it’s way better than it sounds, I promise. Every actor in this movie is spot-on, the writing is amazing, and as a little extra delicious bonus it’s got a quirkily beautiful soundtrack, too.
If it’s still playing in your neck of the woods, I recommend checking it out. Totally the most all-around enjoyable film I’ve seen in a long, long time.

I’ve seen it twice now. Oh it’s so good. It’s my second favorite of 2007, with Gone Baby Gone being number one. A drastically different film but incredible all the same.

I can’t believe you just reviewed this movie. I’ve been wanting to see it and have a movie gift card but didn’t know if it was big screen-worthy. Thank you for confirming what I suspected!

I really liked the movie, but I was kinda disappointed that whatsisface turned out to be such a douche. (Vagueness meant to avoid spoilage).

I would recommend this movie. But what I would not recommend, is to see it if you have just had a miscarriage, like I did. Not the smarest move but I was going with a group of people who wanted to see it. Not to bring down the mood or anything! But I think I’d like to see it again someday, if that helps. : )

I agree, I totally recommend this movie (but, like Paige, I suggest you be careful i.e. don’t go to it with a friend who has been trying to get pregnant for ages with her “not sure he wants to be a dad” husband).

I saw Juno last week and can’t wait to go and see it again. That is saying a lot considering we make it to two movies a year and I am willing to use the second one of those viewings on something I’ve already seen.
It was everything I want out of a movie all rolled into 90 minutes and the soundtrack is great (it has been on repeat in the car for a week now).

Agreed! We don’t see a ton of movies in the theater, so I was thrilled to have seen such a good one. I’ve been recommending this movie to all my friends.
