Getting Up Ten Minutes Earlier

alarmclock.jpgNo, no, keep reading! I have been getting up ten to fifteen minutes earlier than usual because of a toddler-shaped alarm clock, and I would like company, so please sit quietly while I make my case.

While I am not choosing to get up earlier, I have noticed a certain positive affect on our schedule. Before, even though we were always ready on time, and the kids always made it to the bus, and I was always dressed when I took them to the bus stop (bonus!)—there was a certain harried feeling to the morning. “Come ON!,” I found myself saying. “Eat! Get your coat on! COME ON!” And if one thing went wrong (”I can’t find my other boot!”) it was time to panic.

Now, even ten minutes earlier, the whole routine feels happier and looser. Yesterday, I not only got dressed, I put on LIPSTICK. I know, right? Bus stop? or RUNWAY? Furthermore, I also had time to change from my shoes into my boots when I realized halfway down the driveway I’d made a mistake, AND I had time to pay a bill. Today, I had time to write this post. (But no lipstick.) —Swistle

I will sell you a toddler who wakes up at FIVE-THIRTY AM for DIRT CHEAP. Think of all the extra time!

This is actually a fantastic idea and I’m just getting myself out the door in the morning although I have a very difficult dog who takes FOREVER to use the bathroom in the morning, kind of like her father.

I’ll try this and let you know how it goes.

The thing is I’m usually awake…just not getting UP for that 15 minutes. I too have arisen earlier the past couple of days and it has just made all the difference in the world. Here’s to getting up earlier!

For me, this time of year is actually when I get up LATER because it’s cold. Very lame, I know. However, you make a strong case this morning, when I realized a little while ago on my way to work I’d forgotten to BRUSH MY TEETH. Thank God I keep a spare toothbrush and paste in my desk. I can’t believe I just admitted that.
