Jewel’s Christmas Album

jewelcd.jpgI’m sorry. Those of you who don’t celebrate Christmas are probably like, “OH NO, NO MORE CHRISTMAS PLEEEEEASE, WHEN OH WHEN WILL IT BE OVER!!??” Just a few more days of it. Hang in there.

One Christmas long ago I mentioned I wanted Christmas CDs, and I got them from EVERYONE. The one I play most, the one I grab first year after year, is Jewel’s Joy: A Holiday Collection.

There’s a weak area in the middle (the medley, and I’ve never liked the song “I Wonder as I Wander” WHOEVER sings it, and I’m not crazy about her jittery version of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”), but she leads strong with “Joy to the World” and “O Holy Night”—and when she hits that high note (”Oh-o niiiiiight…di-VIIIIIINE!”) I get tears in my eyes EVERY SINGLE TIME.

I like having this CD on in the background on a shuffle with other Christmas CDs, but I also listen to it straight through while I’m wrapping presents. I don’t get tired of it, and I’ve listened to it every year since it came out in 1999. —Swistle

I love this CD. I really want the Sarah McLachlan one too!

I want this CD. Although I agree about the odd version of Rudolph, which I hear on the radio. Jittery is a good word for it.

I also LOVE this CD. I have had to replace my first copy, as the dog ate it when he was a puppy (I was not pleased).

I subbed for a music teacher today and had a terrible time singing the Rudolph song with the kids because I have apparently listened to the Jewel version one too many times. That part where Santa asks him to guide the sleigh, could not remember how to sing it in the non-Jewel way.

I agree that the medley leaves something to be desired!

I am so glad I saw this post! I bought this CD a few years ago, and totally forgot I had it. Now I will have to go search through the embarrassingly extensive CD collection to try to locate it. I hope I can find it, because I think it might be just what I need to really get into the holiday spirit this evening. Also, I think it will go very well with Sarah McLachlan’s Wintersong which has been on repeat on my ipod lately.

I love Jewel! But I feel the same way about the Mariah Carey Christmas album. It came out in 1994…on cassette…and I still pull it out every year. I’m surprised that I still have a cassette player in the house each year! Happy Holidays!
