Christmas Short Stories
This Year It Will Be Different: A Christmas Treasury is my favorite Christmas book. I re-read it every year. It’s hard to find that good balance between gaggy “Miracle of Christmas Love” and hard bitter “dead bum in the Christmas mud” cynicism, and Maeve Binchy finds it. These are the kind of stories that start out grim and end up satisfying. I wore out a paperback and had to buy it in hardcover. —Swistle

A book review! Oh, I am pleased! The books I’ve read lately have fallen squarely into the “dead bum” category, so I could use something like this.

I’ve read some other by Maeve Binchy, but not this one. I’ll have to check it out. Thanks!
