Ferm Living US

wall2.jpgI linked to Ferm Living on this website a while back, and mentioned that while I love their products, there didn’t seem to be any way to purchase anything from the US. A short time later, I heard from a very nice woman from Ferm Living US, a company distributing Ferm products here in the States—and she offered to send me a sample of one of their wall sticker designs.

As promised, a “Branches” wall sticker arrived at my house a few days ago. After some hemming and hawing over where to try this giant sticker, I decided to go balls-out and put it on my living room wall.

The product comes on a white paper background, and as per the instructions we ran a scraper tool over the entire sticker to make sure the design was properly adhered to the clear plastic front. Even so, when we started peeling the clear plastic film away from the paper, it was challenging to get the design to cling to the plastic.

Once we had the plastic freed, we stuck it to the wall—which placed the sticky back of the design against the wall as well—then peeled the clear film back to leave just the design. This didn’t go perfectly, and we ended up with some wrinkles in the design, but they’re not very visible once you’re a few feet away.

It might have been easier to transfer the design if we were more patient about the entire process, but I think the problem lies in this particular design, which is complicated and involves lots of thin pieces. A smaller, less complex design would probably be less difficult. We also left the unrolled sticker sheet lying around the house for a few days before applying it, and I’m guessing the humidity may have possibly warped it a little.

That said, the results are awesome. I love the way this looks, and it appears to be easy enough to remove if we eventually get tired of the design (I did choose a wall that needs to be repainted anyway, Just In Case). As pictured here, we put it above our fireplace mantle, with the branches gently curving down from the ceiling.

Very very cool product overall, and they have a fantastic selection to choose from. I particularly love the Power Pole and Birds stickers used in this baby’s room.

Thanks, Ferm Living! My living room is officially 89% less boring, thanks to you.

What a great idea! Must not let daughter see — she’ll spend a fortune.

Gorgeous! Expensive, though…. I have great plans for using my artistic sister for slave labor when I have real walls to decorate (instead of white rental walls).

I re-read this post as I’m just about to stick three monkeys to the wall. Thanks for the information. Your tree looks truly marvelous. Like a shadow of a tree in an enchanted forest.

Do you think I could remove them and then use them again? I really like a few of them but I’m not sure how long I’ll be in my current apartment. It would be nice to be able to use them again if I move. Based on the application instructions, I’m not sure if that would be possible. What do you think?
