Superbad: Actually SuperRAD

superbad_bigposter.jpgLast Friday I found myself with an unexpected child-free, work-free afternoon, and instead of running errands or doing laundry and being productive at all, I took myself to a matinee. I chose Superbad on a whim, figuring that even if it sucked, at least I’d be relaxing in air-conditioned comfort with a crate-sized box of Whoppers. Really, I can think of worse ways to spend a couple hours.

Brought to you by the folks behind 40 Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up, Superbad is raunchy, crude, and downright filthy at times. It is also the most side-splittingly hilarious movie I’ve seen in I don’t know how long, and excepting some tiresome scenes towards the end that dragged a bit too long, I laughed like a goon throughout the entire thing. I didn’t even finish my Whoppers, because I was so busy cracking up over the dialogue, which I cannot believe they got away with under a PG-13 rating.

I particularly recommend this for any fans of Michael Cera in Arrested Development, as he is in fine, recognizable form here in Superbad. Check out the trailer, put aside any maturity in favor of indulging your inner 15-year-old, and go see this movie.

I can’t tune out my inner 15-year-old when a movie’s this funny.

It’s actually rated R, but I totally agree, it’s hilarious and well worth renting again in the future. I prefer popcorn for my super-bad-for-you movie snack, and I know you hate the “buttery” but I love it so much it hurts sometimes. Maybe those are just my arteries, slowly clogging? But then there are the days when I just need Junior Mints AND popcorn and omg, if you haven’t tried them together, please do.

HA. I just realized that I said super-bad in a comment about Superbad. Not intentional, I swear.

Whoah, you’re right — it IS rated R. It was mislabeled in our Friday paper, wonder if any unsuspecting parents sent their impressionable young teens to go see it. Oh, I HOPE SO.

Did you see Knocked Up? I haven’t laughed that hard in years, and Superbad is on the schedule this weekend. And ah, actually, Knocked Up was so raunchy that Adam approached two eight-year-olds in front of us (who sneaked in!) and made them leave unless they could prove that their parents were there and approved it, and if you knew Adam, you would understand that Adam doesn’t EVER do that kind of thing. It was THAT raunchy.

Oh, now I can’t wait for Superbad.

This movie was great! I laughed so hard, and the crowd I saw it with was great! I work at a theatre and quite a few kids dragged their parents so they could see it.

I second the Knocked Up recommendations. Best hilarious movie I’ve seen in a long time. Especially because I was one of the last people in the world to see Borat….and I hated it so much that it made me want to curl up and die.

I agree with jonniker that if you haven’t seen Knocked Up, you need to drop everything RIGHT NOW and go see it. I laughed so hard that it actually hurt. It was an ab workout AND I got to eat popcorn at the same time.

Back on Superbad, I bet a lot of kids in the Bellvue area were pretty excited to get to go, “Look, it’s PG-13, it says so right there in the paper!” on Friday night.

Ann, I just downloaded Darling Darling from iTunes on your suggestion, and was completely blown away. I don’t know how I’ve never heard of it before, but I found it pretty hillarous and unique.

My inner fifteen year old could use some love. I need to dig up a GOLD BRICK so that I can pay to take myself to a movie, because this sounds hilarious. Why are movies so freaking expensive???

Me and my group of fellow late-twenty-something year old girlfriends went and saw this movie. and upon exiting the theater at the end, we realized we were the only people over 20, and also the only females. Hmm…

[…] Wow, I just realized how pathetic I sound going on and on about housekeeping and organizing and chores (oh, my).  Fortunately, the weekend wasn’t all toil and drudgery — we got together with Kristen and Aaron for dinner and a movie on Saturday night.  We always have a great time with them.  Dinner was yummy — it involved roasted garlic and sangria, enough said.  And then we went to see Superbad, which was, as Linda so aptly put it, superRAD.  And super hilarous.  As well as astonishingly crude-humored and foul-mouthed — not for the easily offended or the faint of heart, and definitely NOT PG-13, in my opinion.  But did I mention that it’s funny?  Laugh-out-loud funny, as long as you don’t mind getting in touch with your inner 17-year-old boy.  Seriously, it’s the Porky’s/Fast Times at Ridgemont High for the (not so) new millennium.  If you’ve seen Superbad and you’re a guy, please enlighten me:  do teenage boys really think and talk to each other this way?  If so, I may have to re-think every conversation I ever had with every guy during high school.  Hm, I should get started on that… […]
