Enviga

envigacans.jpgENVIGA! What the crap is it? Is it a drug for erectile dysfunction? Can its contents embiggen even the smallest man? Is it really . . . based on SCIENCE?

Enviga is a carbonated green tea beverage (marketed by Coca-Cola through their beverage partnership with Nestle/Nestea) that purports to offer calcium, antioxidants, and calorie burning to the tune of 100 calories per day—provided your day includes drinking 3 cans of Enviga, that is.

Each can has 100mg of caffeine, the same amount in a cup of coffee, and 200mg of calcium. A serving also includes 90mg of EGCD (Epigallocatechin gallate), a kind of antioxidant found in green tea.

Let’s cut to the chase, though: what does it taste like? Well, I’ve tried all three flavors. The Green Tea tastes like sweet green tea; while the Peach and Berry taste like fake berry/peach flavors with a green tea aftertaste. I think the Peach is actually pretty good, while the plain Green Tea is horky.

If you’re like me and consume a lot of buzz-beverages, Enviga isn’t a bad alternative when you want something different from a Diet Coke or sugar-free Red Bull. Would I drink it for the calorie burning effects? Nah. I don’t like this stuff enough to drink 3 cans a day—plus, at $1.50 a can, it’s a spendy way to burn off the effects of one frigging pear.

Ballpark price: $7 for a six-pack, about $1.50 a can.

I prefer the peach. Sugar Free Red Bull is out, Peach Enviga is in.

I tried the Peach yesterday (even though I’m avoiding caffeine since I am pregnant) but it was actually pretty good. I still think it had an energy drink aftertaste but it was still not as bad as any of the others I’d tried.
