Garmin Rino Series 120 GPS

I didn’t get around to posting all of JB’s recommendations for Valentine’s Day guy-gift ideas (I left out the Lever Body Wash, for one, since JB’s sole reason for the product endorsement was, “It doesn’t smell like a bunch of foofy shit”—which just really goes against my entire life philosophy, practically), but I hope the ones we did post were at least marginally useful. Or at least a nice break from the normal “All Foofy Shit, All The Time” SundryBuzz programming.

garmingps.jpgThe last JB pick (for now, anyway) is this Garmin GPS unit. I’ve had some people ask what sort of GPS we use, since I’ve mentioned our occasional foray into the dorktastic world of geocaching: this is the one, a Garmin Rino that JB got as a gift several years ago. We only use it for plugging in coordinates and tracking through public parks, but it’s got lots of extra bells and whistles.

JB: “This is a great GPS for family use, skiing, hunting, geocaching, keeping track of hunting buddies. It’s got an easy transmit location feature—so if you need to find a ski partner or member of your hunting party, you can track directly to them. The GPS shows distance and direction. It’s also a two way radio, so you can communicate back and forth with the handhelds.”

In addition to geocaching, I remember one memorable use of this GPS where JB logged the location of our truck before we started a longish, badly-mapped hike into the Three Sisters Wilderness. When it came time to leave (after a slightly challenging time finding our camp) we just plugged in the saved location and followed that back out. It was . . . I think soothing is the word I’m looking for. It’s an ass-saving device if you do any backcountry camping, for sure.

This is perfect for my husband (and I like the “soothing” factor for my Safety1st mentality). Thank you! He’ll love it.

Ooooh. I got my GPS many many years ago, before they included two-way radios. I have no real reason to upgrade, but…I want to.
