Benefit Boi-ing concealer

boiing.jpgPardon the somewhat stale content here over the last few weeks, this website has been on the back burner while I’ve been crazy-busy elsewhere. Never fear, I’ll be updating again more frequently, for my consumer-goods love KNOWS NO LIMIT and I CAN’T SHUT UP ABOUT IT.

Ahem. Aaaand, topic: I wanted to follow up on the subject of concealer. Thanks to all your great recommendations, I have a plethora of products to try out (and no shortage of undereye circles to cover). My first purchase, and one I’m pretty happy with so far is Benefit’s Boi-ing.

This is a thick, creamy product that took some getting used to. The first few times I applied it I used too much and had gunk-coated creases just minutes later. I also noticed that if my skin was even a little dry, the concealer stuck to it and didn’t look smooth.

The trick for me is to use a heavier moisturizer under my eyes beforehand, and apply just a little bit at a time. With those precautions, this is a great cover-up that really makes a difference with my raccoon eyes, and blends nicely with the makeup I dust on afterwards.

My only complaint is the Fussy Factor — I wish I could put this stuff on more quickly, rather than dib-dabbing away while gawping at myself in the mirror (which is handily included in the little compact that holds the cream). But, it’s like that saying: compared to how I looked ten years ago, I think I really do spend twice as long trying to look half as good. Maybe it’s not the concealer’s fault, you know?

Anyway, if you’re in the dark-eye camp, this is a good one. I’ll keep trying other goop, so keep on sending suggestions if you have them.

just a thought: why not try a concealer bush? you might have an easier time applying.

i myself used the boi-oing concealer for a while and then converted to the vincent longo when i found they had a shade that better suited my complexion. i found both very similar. it took me a while to get the knack of applying it, but i found the concealer brush made a differece. a little smoother and also EXCELLENT when it comes to covering up blemishes of the “that-time-of-the-month” variety. theyre not exactly cheap (are ANY makeup brushes?) but i found worth it. sometimes sephoras little travel kits come with concealer brushes, which have the added bonus of supplying other brushes complete with purse-size convenience!

For yet another recommendation… Cover Girl stick concealer (official name??). The packaging definitely has old school appeal–it looks like skin tone lipstick; however there is something about this design that makes the product extremely easy to apply in any number of places: under the eyes, eyelids, nose creases, chin, blemishes, etc. Bonus: The low price makes it reasonable to own an extra to live in your purse.

I’ve been using the Boi-ing for a year or two now and really like it — it does its job of brightening that area and doesn’t magically change colors in different lights, which is a bonus if you frequently go from natural light to icky flourescent office light to incandescent light and back and don’t want to end up with strident yellow circles under your eyes instead of dark bags. Not sure which is worse. I use my fingers, as I’ve never really gotten the hang of a brush. Anyway, I found it tedious at first too, but now that it’s just another part of my morning makeup routine it doesn’t seem like a big deal.

On the subject of makeup… Any suggestions on how to travel with Bare Escentuals? Every time I go somewhere, I open the lids to receive mushroom clouds in my face. P.S. I’m too lazy to put tape over the holes.

I don’t know, although the tape would definitely work. Maybe a cotton ball stuffed in there?
