Digital Spectrum MemoryFrame 5.6-Inch Digital Picture Frame
This digital picture frame was something JB and I gave to both of our families for Christmas this year. Basically, you put the photos you want to display on a memory card, plug your card into the card reader, and you’re good to go. There are various settings but the one that seems most useful is “slideshow” — which just cycles through your pictures at whatever speed you choose.
I thought the image quality was quite good - fairly contrasty and saturated, but that’s how I like photos anyway. The frame has options for playing video and MP3s, which we didn’t bother with.
For the gifts, we loaded two memory cards with about a jillion photos of Riley and packaged them with the frames. The only thing that would be even more awesome is if the frame could connect to the Internet, so we could send over new photos all the time — but mailing a new memory card now and then is no big deal.
At $100, this is a handy, reasonably-priced little gadget. I’m going to get one of these for my office, because, you know, the five hundred paper photos I have of Riley aren’t enough.

It’s been a few years, but when my grandparents were still alive my extended family chipped in and got them a Ceiva frame. Downside: you have to pay a monthly subscription fee. Upside: anyone with the password can load new photos to the frame over the internet, and the frame automatically logs online and checks for new photos each night. This was great for my grandparents, who claimed to be unable to use computers at all, and it was great for the rest of us, who could send photos whenever we felt like it. I’d send new photos of a kid’s birthday, and my cousin would send photos of her kid’s soccer game, and my aunt would send photos of their kitchen remodel.

I should have mentioned that the frame “logs online” over the phone line, so the recipient doesn’t have to have a computer.

Thanks for reviewing this. It was on my list of potential Xmas gifts for my parents, but after reading other reviews I decided against it. I’m glad to hear you liked it, because it is certainly more affordable than others I’ve seen.

We got this for my parents this year, too. Different brand I think, I honestly don’t remember. My mother loves it. We didn’t send a memory card with it since my daughter is only 1 out of 7 grandchildren, but I wish we had thought of it.

We’ve gotten Ceiva picture frames for both our mothers, and they love it. The only downside is being asked “hmmm, no new pictures today?”
