I’m a little embarrassed to admit I read about these “Mommy Tags” necklaces in Us magazine, probably in that silly “Buzz-O-Meter” column that lists products celebrities are supposedly buying. I somehow doubt this is really a hot ticket item for the A-list crowd, being as how everything on the site costs less than $100. Maybe there are custom celebrity versions made from diamond-encrusted okapi hide, or something.

Anyway, the necklace I bought is made of silver that is recycled from film (”…extracted through a process Mitsubishi Materials developed, ground into tiny particles, mixed with an organic binder and then fired in a kiln”), and includes Riley’s birthdate – 8.31.05 – and his name, along with the “BEBE/LOVE” tag.

I wear it almost every day, it’s just the perfect sort of jewelry for me because it’s not fussy or delicate and it looks great with a t-shirt. I love the sentiment and the way the tags sound when they gently clink together.

Riley is a big fan of the necklace too, he gets intently focused on my neckline when I’m holding him and he loves to grab ahold of the tags and tug on them (yes, he occasionally has to be restrained lest he cut off my air supply). He’s jangling the necklace with one hand and holding the cute little tin it came in with the other hand in this photo:
